About Futoshiki Unlimited

Futoshiki Unlimited offers number puzzles with unique solutions, combining row and column rules with inequality clues for a fun logic challenge.

Futoshiki Unlimited is a logic puzzle based on numbers and inequality clues. Also known as Unequal, the game uses a square grid where each cell needs one digit from 1 up to the board size. A 4×4 board, for example, uses numbers from 1 to 4.

NUMBERS AND INEQUALITY CLUES

Futoshiki Unlimited centers on filling a square grid with numbers while following row, column, and inequality rules. Each row and column needs every number exactly once, while symbols such as < and > determine how neighboring cells relate to one another.

The opening moves usually come from obvious clues, such as missing numbers in nearly completed rows or columns. Inequality chains can narrow down several cells at once, while minimum and maximum restrictions help remove impossible values.

Simple Logic Behind Every Move

Row and column exclusion is one of the easiest techniques to use. When three numbers already appear in a row of a 4×4 board, the missing number must fill the remaining space. The same rule applies to columns.

Inequalities can remove even more possibilities. A cell that must be greater than another cell cannot contain 1, since no smaller value exists. A cell that must be smaller than another cannot contain the largest number on the board.

Inequality Chains

Long chains can reveal several values at once. On a 4×4 board, a sequence such as A < B < C < D must contain 1, 2, 3, 4 in that order. No other sequence can satisfy all four comparisons.

Minimum and maximum values provide another useful shortcut. Any cell that must be smaller than 2 can only contain 1. Any cell that must be greater than 3 on a 4×4 board can only contain 4. These patterns become especially useful when several inequality signs connect nearby cells.

Combining Clues

More difficult puzzles often require several rules at the same time. One possible number may seem correct until its row, column, or inequality restrictions are checked.

For example, 1 may need a position in a particular row. One empty cell could already have 1 in its column, while another cell might need to be greater than a neighboring value. Those restrictions can eliminate multiple spaces and leave only one valid position.

This kind of elimination is central to Futoshiki Unlimited. Careful observation can often replace random guessing.

Control

  • Click a cell: Select the square you want to fill.
  • Select a digit: Place the chosen number in the cell.
  • X: Remove the current value.
  • Keyboard numbers: Enter digits directly.
  • 0: Delete the selected value when using the keyboard.
