Catdoku is a cat-themed logic puzzle that mixes ideas from Sudoku and Minesweeper. Instead of filling a board with numbers, your goal is to place a limited number of cats in the correct cells.

Four Rules Shape the Puzzle

• Success depends on following all four rules at the same time:
• One cat per row: No two cats can share a row.
• One cat per column: No two cats can share a column.
• One cat per color: Each colored section can contain only one cat.
• No touching: Cats cannot be next to one another horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

A 6×6 puzzle, for example, requires six cats in total. The final arrangement has one cat in every row, one in every column, and one in each color while leaving the remaining cells empty.

X Marks Reveal the Hidden Solution

X marks provide an important part of the solving strategy. An impossible cell can receive an X instead of a cat, helping narrow down the remaining possibilities. A row with its cat already placed eliminates other cells in that row. The same idea applies to columns and colored sections. Nearby cells can also receive X marks when a cat would violate the no-touching rule.

More X marks gradually reduce the number of possible locations. The puzzle becomes easier to read as incorrect options disappear from consideration.

CAREFUL THINKING BEATS RANDOM GUESSES

Mistakes can cost a fish, so random clicking is not the best approach. A quick look at the entire grid can reveal useful connections between rows, columns, colors, and nearby cells. Hints are also available when a puzzle becomes difficult. Increasingly complex levels provide more challenging situations for players who enjoy testing their deduction skills.
