What Is SilvaGuessr?

SilvaGuessr is a daily browser-based music guessing game inspired by SiIvaGunner-style high-quality rips. Instead of simply naming familiar video game music, players listen for unexpected musical changes and try to identify the joke hidden inside each track.

SiIvaGunner is known for music remixes and mashups presented as misleading video game music rips. Tracks often begin by sounding like the advertised source track before changing into another song or musical reference known as the joke.

SilvaGuessr turns this concept into an easy-to-understand daily guessing challenge. Each round tests how well you recognize melodies, sound changes, and familiar music references.

Source Tracks and Musical Jokes

Every puzzle revolves around two key parts: the source track and the joke. The source track is the song that the rip initially appears to be. The joke is the unexpected musical reference that appears later. One example uses the Athletic Theme from Super Mario World as the source track before switching into “Witch Doctor” by David Seville.

Multiple smaller references can sometimes appear in the same rip. For daily questions, SilvaGuessr focuses on the first and most noticeable reference so that each puzzle has a clear answer.

Three Modes to Test Your Ears

• Normal Mode shows the video together with the source track name. Your job is to listen to the rip and figure out which joke appears in the music.
• Reverse Mode hides the video and reveals the joke instead. The challenge becomes identifying the original source track based only on what you hear.
• Sicko Mode takes the challenge further by hiding the video and asking you to identify both the source track and the joke from the audio.

Custom Quiz Options

Custom quizzes provide another way to play beyond the daily question. Players can create their own quizzes by adding individual YouTube videos or using a public YouTube playlist.

Playlist support can automatically add songs that already exist in the SilvaGuessr database. Current support covers the first 50 songs in a playlist, making it possible to build larger themed challenges without adding every track individually. The database contains thousands of songs, so there is plenty of room for different music styles, game soundtracks, and unexpected references.

Quick Gameplay Guide

Start with the daily SilvaGuessr puzzle and listen closely to the featured rip. In Normal Mode, identify the hidden joke while the source track is provided. Reverse Mode asks for the source track after revealing the joke, while Sicko Mode requires both answers without showing the video.

Pay attention to melody changes and familiar musical patterns rather than rushing toward an answer. Custom quizzes also provide more ways to practice and challenge friends with your own collection of tracks.
